Apple India has slashed the price of its most popular smartphone iPhone 5S, bringing it down to an attractive price point of Rs 24,999 for the 16GB version.
The device that was priced at Rs 44,500 in September this year, before the launch of iPhone 6S, is now available on Amazon for Rs 20,499.
This makes the Indian price of iPhone 5s one of the lowest in the world, despite the depreciating rupee and higher import taxes. The price cut is part of Apple’s strategy to build a stronger portfolio in the mid-segment smartphone market.
There are reports that iPhone 5s continues to be the most popular Apple smartphone in India, accounting for almost 50 percent of total iPhone sales.
Powered by the A7 processor, iPhone 5S is upgradeable to the latest version of iOS. The smartphone is expected to get software updates for the next 2-3 years.
